Lykke Li: Saddness Is a Blessing
I have always been a fan of Lykke Li. I first saw her at Bardot (a sweet little nightclub that held a very special place in my heart for about six months in ‘08-‘09) when I was living in LA at least 4 years ago. When I first saw her, she had just released “Little Bit” and I’m not even sure it was on a full album. The clubkids loved her.
When JM showed me her performance on ACL, we were both awestruck and smitten at the same time. She has learned the stage so well. It’s like she’s performing in front of the mirror in her bedroom, that’s how comfortable she is and how warm she makes the audience feel. The Sweeds have this ability to emote so very well on stage - for them it’s a complete cathartic purging of all their passions, so much so that JM said it felt like she was “oozing through the TV”.
This is a very long-winded way to share one of my favorite songs (and videos - Stellan Skarsgård!) from her new record. That “Shangri-Las” drum/tambo clap is just so hearty! (JM uses that same sound in one of his new songs…)
