Robyn: Call Your Girlfriend
By now you probably know how much of a Robyn fan I am. I was a fan back in the “Show Me Love” days and I’m even more of a fan now. Just when I thought we had sadly departed from the days of one-take musical numbers (ahem, Gene Kelly), Robyn returns with this spectacle of a video. I also really love the song itself. She evokes such sincere heartbreak through her melodies (even though the song is about another man breaking up with his current gf to be with her {happy!}, one still feels bad for the person on the receiving end of the phone call {sad!}). Plus! She finds a way to incorporate the Electric Slide (one of my favorite dance moves).
Also: I love Robyn’s style. I think she’s one of the most authentic (stylistically) female musicians out there. It seems like this is a common theme with Swedish musicians. Maybe I just have a crush on all things Swedish!
