Friday Faves
Nostalgic for family adventures, I’ve decided to turn this week’s faves into a “blast from the past” - my favorite moments from the past year. As New Orleanians, we often complain that there’s too much going on in the city (football, Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest, Fill-In-The-Blank Fest) but I have to admit, the time from the end of football season to the start of Mardi Gras is always filled with sweet anticipation and displaced anxiety. To take my mind off of this “tweener”, I’ll just remember some fun stuff from 2011…
What was your favorite part of the last 12 months? Happy Weekend!

Bright On A Cloudy Day
It’s been the weirdest weather here in New Orleans lately and the only way I really like to un-funk myself is to throw on the brightest thing that jumps out to me from my closet. It just so happened that I matched the blooming camellia’s at my mom’s house! I wanted a pair of red bell trousers (like Krystal rocks), alas I had to settle for my old trusty TavernitiSo’s and my sweet pug.
Top: GLAM (from em&liv) // Sweater: F21 // Faux Fur Vest: F21 //  Jeans: TavernitiSo // Boots: Vintage cowboy // Necklace(s): Beaded-Em’s; Stone & Leather-Saint Claude
p.s. Thanks to my Mom for taking great photos!

The White Stripes: My Doorbell

Because…who doesn’t love a White Stripe video?!

Currently Coveting: A new Camera
I have wanted to up my camera game for a very long time. Initially, I wanted the Canon G10 (because my amazing photog friend in LA loved his), but now a-days I think I’m ready for a bigger camera. Knock-on-wood it’s in my future sooner than later…yay!

Bright Pink Lips
Sometimes all you need is a little splash of color to spice up an ordinary black/grey outfit. Every once and again I pull out my “Fuchsia Fever” by Maybelline and color my lips (as opposed to the normal Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1) and the rest of the day seems so bright!

{Disclaimer: It was really cold and really windy the day we took these photos, so if I seem a bit stoic, it’s because I’m trying to hide the fact that I’m FREEZING!}

Friday Faves
This week seemed to zing right on by. Here in New Orleans it always feels like the time from December 25-Carnival is always a bit of a blur. This week I started incrementally dressing our house for Mardi Gras (we’ll have a few friends in town) which always makes me very happy. What also makes me happy: seeing great new music like we did last night - thanks to the Tumbleweeds, Hurray for The Riff Raff (Alynda lee Segarra is unreal) and Alabama Shakes. Happy weekend y’all!
{Pictured above: Our somewhat pretty/somewhat creepy front door decor}

Magritte-inspired dining table centerpiece.

The fabulous new fabric I found in the discount bin and all of JM’s colorful, pretty world on top.

Reading material for the weekend…

…and my reading buddy.

Houndstooth in Lafayette Cemetery
Growing up in New Orleans, I’ve always been drawn to and captivated by cemeteries. They are a symbol of beauty and diligence for here we celebrate the life of a person rather than wallow in heartache. I really loved the neon flowers in the photo below - perhaps an emblem of the bright life of the person resting there.
Location: Lafayette Cemetary No. 1

The War on Drugs: Baby Missiles

JM showed me the performance of The War on Drugs on some late night show last week. From note one, I knew I liked what I was hearing. I think the exact quote was “It’s like my ears are out at a playground having a blast” or something like that. I’m excited they’re coming to New Orleans in March.

What do you think? Would you buy the record?

Big Red Heart
Originally, this post was going to be a “Gameday Garb” post, but judging by the unusual sadness felt on Sunday, I really didn’t feel a black and gold post was appropriate. I’ll be shelving that one until next pre-season!
Instead, I want to start the week off fresh, and full of love (HAPPY MLK DAY) - and nothing expresses love better than this sweater my sister gave me (from one of her collections) for Christmas.
Location: Our luscious driveway

Friday Faves
Today I’m grateful for and loving a bunch of things. It’s a *crisp* 40 degrees here in New Orleans and I’m ecstatic about this. Miles loves the cold weather - he turns into a zippy little pup when we go on our long bayou walks. I’m loving the new James Brown record that’s playing in our “office/study/guest bed/music” room right now, and I’m psyched to watch football and celebrate my brother’s birthday tomorrow (I’m in charge of baked goods!).
What are you excited about today?
Happy Weekend! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRAH!
{Above Photo: Running in cold weather make me happy, and Audubon park is always beautiful.}

Purple, Green and Gold is my favorite color trio.

My trusty (and battered) musical cheerleader.

Having a portable record player in the extra room is always a good move (this was my first Christmas gift from JM ;).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAC! STAND UP AND GET CRUNK!

Workin’ 9 to 5 (or 10 to 6…)
On Wednesdays I work at em&liv (as mentioned here).  Playing dress up is a huge release for me and finding the perfect photo spot as well as camera setting(s) allows me to exercise my creativity and the art of consistency.
Sometimes I go in thinking of a particular accessory I’d like to add - today it was this sweater and skirt (though I tried a few different looks throughout the day!). Miles usually accompanies me and it’s our sweet time together - he’s such a great helper/greeter!
Sweater: Puff & Bear // Skirt: BCBGeneration // Tights: Urban Outfitters // Shoes: Steve Madden // Earrings: eM’s // Necklace: Tiffany & Co.
