My friend Tina T on Vimby talking about her career as a DJ. I met her when she came to LA and I knew right away she was going to be a rockstar (she’s one of the characters in the new DJ HERO game and she’s on Deckstar with the likes of DJ Jazzy Jeff, Stretch Armstrong, and Grandmaster Flash).
She used to get kind of frustrated when people would say she was a great DJ “for a girl” or be surprised that she was so good because she was a girl… there are a lot of DJs out there that suck and rely on sex instead of skills but Tina’s a true hip-hop head, she can cut with the best, though she’s also mad cute.
Last night, on the three-year anniversary of the party that was started at LAX by Steve, AM, and Mark, was the final Banana Split. The night was sort of a memorial for DJ AM, and some of his best friends (and some of the best DJs from around the world) came out to honour him - DJ A-Trak, Cut Chemist, Z-Trip, Justice, Steve Aoki, and a lot of others spun for their homie. I had just started hanging out with Mark, and Steve, and Adam when the night started, and it’s wild to think that it’s been three years… how much has changed but also how fast it’s happened. I went with Ivey, Hanna, and some other friends - we only stayed for a little while but the vibe was like I’ve never seen before and it was really good seeing everyone, three years of friends and memories.
